Is it possible to withdraw the objection to Planning Permit Application?

Yes, it is possible for an objector to remove the objective. This has to be done in writing. You must write the letter saying withdrawal of earlier objection, address to the Council.

The letter needs to have:

The application number for the Planning Permit application
The name, address and contact number of the objector
The site’s address

What means by ESD and STEPS?

ESD means Environmentally Sustainable Design. The objective of the Council is to develop a city that is environmentally sustainable. And, every new house or unit has to fulfill the correct environmental standards. STEPS is a website tool that can be used by applicants of Planning Permit.

Council requires all the applicants of Planning Permit to design their buildings under their STEPS Program to enhance the environmental aspects of the design.

Will getting a Planning Permit also mean getting a Building Permit?

There is a different legislation with regard to the issue of Building Permits. The Building Services in the Council looks at various aspects in the Planning Permits such as the material, structure, safety concerns and fire ratings in a building. Certain aspects like the distance between the building and the street are comparable to planning controls.

Is it important to get a Planning Permit Prior to a Building Permit?

Yes, it is compulsory that you get the Planning Permit prior to getting the Building Permit. It is highly recommended that you get the services of some building surveyor for the review of your plans prior to submitting your application for Planning Permit.

If you require a Planning Permit

For building a new house or to make an extension to a house, many things can’t be determined from the Planning Permit. This includes the distance between the boundary and the side walls, or the height of the walls. There are two conditions for this to happen:

When the land is located within a residential area and spread across 300 Sq. m.
When the land is within an Environmental Significance Overlay, Heritage Overlay or any other Overlay zone.
